Real Madrid Face Atletico Madrid in Copa del Rey Finals

I think until now some are still talking (including this post) and can’t still believe how Barca were dumped out of Copa del Rey (1-3) in a stunning fashion. Much more that it came from their arch rivals Real Madrid knowing that they (Barcelona) are at the top of La Liga standings with a massive 16 points lead from Real. It was the first time since 2008 that the Catalans have been well beaten with such gap in a very important match and that ended their hope for another treble title this season.

Adding to their agonizing defeat is the fact that they’re going to dig deeper in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie with AC Milan on 12 March after their stunning 2-0 loss at San Siro. Barcelona should score at least three goals and blank the Rossoneri in order for them to go through the last eight.

With a very organized counterattacking tactics and disciplined defensive walls, Real Madrid have neutralized Barca’s “Tiki-taka” style of play and have closed down the passing lane that leads to Messi’s uneventful night. After scoring two goals, Ruin-naldo has become a nemesis for the Catalans as his goals have directly contributed in losing titles in the past three seasons. And it is now official and confirmed that Real Madrid will face city rivals Atletico Madrid in the finals on 18 May.

The Most Anticipated Champions League Matchup

February was a busy day for football clubs who are able to reach the highest football competition in Europe. So last February and as I have said in my previous post that it is much better to watch the most anticipated Champions League matchup between the giants Real Madrid and Manchester United in a better resolution and much wider screen. Although I don’t like the result as my favorite team wasn’t able to capitalize their home advantage yet it is a deserving outcome against another hungry team across the Atlantic.
Real Madrid is pursuing “La Decima” in this tournament to seal and add to their already dominant record of nine Champions League titles as coach Jose Mourinho, who on the other hand, has a quest of his own to become the first and only man to win three Champions League titles with three different clubs. And last night’s 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu give Manchester United a crucial away goal ahead of the second leg in three weeks’ time at Old Trafford.

And true to what Mourinho had proclaimed earlier, the match, indeed, lived up to what he claimed as “the match the world wanted to see” as both teams created so many chances to extend their lead but with goalkeeping brilliance and luck, it ended in a 1-1 draw. And stat says, ManU progressed in 17 of 19 European Cup knockout ties when they don’t lose in a first leg away match while Real Madrid have won only one of their last five games in England.
